As a composer, Tan Tuan Hao has collaborated widely, with ensembles such as: FIGURA Ensemble, Randers Kammerorkester, Ung Nordisk Musik and Nordiske Musikdage (Denmark), Ensemble Mosaic (Germany), Ensemble TM+ (France), and Ding Yi Music (Singapore), and has written works for solo artists such as Helene Gjerris (mezzo-soprano), Ernst Sondum Dalsgard (tenor), Simon Duus (bass-baritone), Cæcilie Balling (violin) and Peter Oldrup (guitar).
His interests in music composition lie in the intersection of musical and dramatic expression, and his works often explore the mutual impact that sound and meaning have on each other. His latest compositions work with texts that touch on questions of identity, gender, and sexuality. Tuan Hao also works with live improvisation, combining live performance with real-time audiovisual processing.

Tuan Hao has studied with composers such as Chong Kee Yong (Malaysia/Singapore), Lindsay Vickery (Australia), Bent Sørensen, Hans Abrahamsen, Jeppe Just Christensen and Niels Rosing-Schow (Denmark). In December 2015, he debuted from the soloist class at the Royal Danish Academy of Music. In 2021-2025, he served as a member of the board of the Danish Composers’ Society and a member of Koda’s Grants Committee.
